Easter Monday Youth Pilgrimmage to Canterbury Cathedral - 2009

The Easter Monday Youth Pilgrimage has a very long tradition in Canterbury.
For the past three years there have been organized short walks into the Cathedral from start points around the City, and Sturry is one of these. From Sturry Church we walk along the off road cycle path linking Fordwich with Canterbury.

This year (2009) there was communion at the cathedral. We arrived at about midday along with groups from all over Kent, some having walked 20-30 miles in two days. By comparison the walk from Sturry is a pleasant three miles. At the cathedral the banners were paraded in and followed by a mixture of worship and drama / talk on the Emmaus Road. We then had picnic lunches in the cloisters or on the grass around the cathedral and there were activities for all in various parts of the cathedral. After lunch we returned to the nave of the cathedral for the rest of the service with communion, and then the traditional parade out of the group banners.
